About this policy
Calendar Marathi publishes calendars, Panchang references and guides to festivals observed in Maharashtra. This Editorial Policy explains how we describe our calculations, use cultural sources, credit artwork and handle corrections. Readers should be able to distinguish a festival date from a ritual timing and understand the location attached to a time.
Editorial responsibility
Pandit Ashish Moshra, based in Kolhapur, prepares the calendar using his own calculation method. Festival articles describe religious observances and household customs with attention to differences between families and regions. We identify the author responsible for an article and avoid presenting one household’s practice as a rule for everyone in Maharashtra.
Calculations and location
Calendar Marathi uses Mumbai, Maharashtra as the location reference for its published times unless a page explicitly states otherwise. Ashish Moshra also uses the open-source VedAstro project on GitHub to cross-check sunrise and sunset. His own calculations and the comparison tool have separate roles. Use of an open-source project does not imply endorsement by its maintainers. When applying a timing in Kolhapur or another city, check the location and method before using it.
Festival dates, tithi and muhurat
A festival date, a tithi end time, sunrise or sunset, and a puja muhurat are different entries. We keep those meanings separate. A time after midnight must be read with its next-day context. Differences between calendars may reflect location, year or the convention used to select the observance. Where a difference affects a published entry, its basis should be checked and explained. A personal ritual timing needs its own location and tradition; a general festival guide cannot establish it for every reader.
Sources and cultural context
Year-specific festival references link to the relevant monthly calendar where practical. Cultural sources, including Maharashtra Tourism and other identifiable publications, support explanations of customs. Such sources do not independently certify our calendar calculations. Temple opening hours, Wari departures, procession routes and event arrangements should be checked against current information from the temple, organiser or local administration. Religious stories and beliefs are described as part of their tradition.
Writing and review
Our festival guides use English titles, headings, body text and focus keywords. We aim for clear, specific writing and avoid repetitive keywords, inflated claims and vague appeals to authority. We do not invent quotations, personal experiences or sources. If AI tools help with drafting or editing, responsibility for reviewing the facts and final wording remains with the editor.
Original calendar design and illustrations
Our team creates the original calendar layout in CorelDRAW. Some festival articles include AI-generated devotional illustrations, which are identified in the caption or article. These illustrations represent a devotional subject; they are not evidence of a particular ceremony, temple or family gathering. Credits for the original calendar design and for an accompanying article illustration are kept distinct.
Corrections and updates
Please report a possible error through our Contact Us page. Include the page link, year, date, location and a reference that helps explain the discrepancy. We review the relevant entry and its source context before making a correction. A substantial change to a festival date or timing should carry a correction note on the affected page. Spelling, formatting and broken-link repairs may be made without changing the underlying calendar information.
Using a calendar reference
Home puja, fasting and offerings vary by household and religious tradition. For a personal ceremony, use the Panchang for the relevant year and location alongside guidance from the priest or tradition you follow. Descriptions of religious beliefs do not promise a particular health, financial or personal outcome. Read About Us for further background and our Disclaimer for the scope of the information.
