Marathi month names and how to find them in a 2027 calendar
January and Paush are not interchangeable names for a fixed month. January is a Gregorian civil month. Paush is a lunar-month name in the Marathi calendar. Their boundaries need not fall on the same dates.
A monthly page can therefore show two lunar-month names near its English heading. Use the daily tithi line to find the lunar month attached to a particular date.

Read a mixed heading
The supplied January 2027 record has the heading मार्गशीर्ष / पौष. Its first daily row says मार्गशीर्ष कृ. ९. Later dates move into Paush. The heading describes the lunar months appearing within January; it does not assign both names to every day.
This matters when a family remembers an occasion by lunar date. “Paush Shukla Saptami” cannot be reduced to “January 7” without checking the year and daily record.
Keep the paksha with the month
A complete lunar-date label includes the month, paksha and tithi. The abbreviations शु. and कृ. identify the paksha. A following numeral or word identifies the tithi. Margashirsha Krishna Navami carries more information than Margashirsha alone.
Roman spellings vary. You may see Paush written as Pausha or Ashadh as Ashadha. Compare the Marathi spelling and daily entry before treating a small spelling change as a different month.
Use a year-specific date table
A chart pairing every English month with exactly one Marathi month hides the moving boundary. The names table above teaches sequence and spelling. It is not a permanent January-to-Paush conversion table.
When a source marks a lunar month as Adhik, preserve that word. Removing it can change the meaning of a remembered date. Also check whether two sources use the same month-reckoning convention before comparing their month names.
To find a date here, open the English month containing the civil date and read its daily Panchang row. Copy the lunar month, paksha and tithi together rather than selecting the nearest familiar English date.
